Emotional and mental symptoms of the first stages of menopause
can be even more frustrating than the physical ones because they
don’t show on the outside. Oftentimes, friends, relatives,
coworkers, and even healthcare providers think a woman is “making
a mountain out of a mole hill” when she complains of moods
shifts or concentration problems.
Because of this, women frequently won’t seek medical attention
for minor symptoms they experience during the three stages of menopause,
but we must remember that just about ever symptom has some kind
of treatment available to alleviate it – sometimes even something
as simple as natural remedies like black cohosh or soy isoflavones.
Like physical symptoms, mental and emotional symptoms of menopause
can vary in intensity. The symptom stays the same, but the way it
affects a woman’s lifestyle is what determines whether it
could be considered minor or major.

Emotional
symptoms that most women experience are sadness or irritability,
and some even note they have mental disturbances, including less
ability to concentrate and pay attention. However, both are problems
that can be reduced or even eliminated by a variety of means including
the natural isoflavones found in soy products or the herbal supplement
black cohosh.
Causes of these symptoms vary too. The actual loss of estrogen
and progesterone can induce them, but the psychological impact of
physical evidence that a woman actually is getting older can make
a big difference, too. Regardless of the cause, these symptoms can
be frustrating, even when only experienced to a mild degree. It’s
important to understand that with the wide range of treatment plans
possible, no woman has to suffer. Feeling better might require nothing
more than consulting her primary care provider and discussing some
solutions like HRT, exercise programs, and natural remedies like
black cohosh and soy products.
