Losing Weight During Menopause

If she is overweight, losing weight can be a difficult proposition at any time of in a woman’s life, but this is especially true as middle age sets in. Making the whole process harder is the fact this is also the time when symptoms of perimenopause, the first stage in the process we call menopause, begin to appear, as well.

Because so many symptoms of menopause can be intense or frequent enough to cause severe negative effects on a woman’s life, it is an especially important time to gain control and develop a healthy lifestyle that will sustain her throughout the rest of her life. So many times, a woman’s self-image is affected by the constant, irritating symptoms like hot flashes and mood swings that she cannot seem to find the energy or motivation to actually make an effort toward losing weight.

This is where various treatment plans, like black cohosh and soy isoflavones can help. Because they can reduce or even eliminate many of the more frustrating symptoms of menopause, including hot flashes and mood swings, they can seemingly “renew” a woman’s attitude, thus enabling her to focus on losing weight.

Not only are these treatments important for their immediate effect, but they can also help reduce her likelihood of higher risk of dangerous diseases as she moves into her postmenopause years. However, as with all treatments, every woman who thinks she might be entering menopause should consult her primary healthcare provider before starting any lifestyle changes like a weight-loss program.
