Natural remedies can be a very healthy and useful means of treating
the symptoms associated with the onset of perimenopause. They range
from those like black cohosh and soy isoflavones that can help with
a wide variety of symptoms to those that target specific symptoms
only. They have also been reported to help prevent increased risk
of some of the life-threatening conditions that are so common during
a woman’s postmenopausal years.
Always be just as cautious when considering herbal supplements
as part of a treatment plan as you are with any kind of health-related
changes. Herbal supplements are not “controlled” in
the United State like drugs are, so you can sometimes get different
doses from the same size capsules from different manufacturers.
In some cases, you can even get different doses from different production
lots of the same manufacturer. Make sure to check the label of any
herbal supplement you consider to see whether the manufacturer has
agreed to meet any optional government or industry guidelines.

Also,
many supplements have not had rigorous, controlled testing performed
to verify their efficacy or to clarify whether they do have any
side-effects, either mild or severe.
Finally, as noted before in several of our articles on menopause,
it is important to consult with your primary healthcare provider
prior to taking any supplements or making any serious lifestyle
changes, even if they are healthy ones. Your overall health is very
important in designing a treatment plan that is just right for you.
Another place where your healthcare provider can be useful is in
determining whether an herbal supplement can work in your plan.
