According to a review of eight human studies, Cimicifuga racemosa, or black cohosh, is a safe and effective alternative to estrogen replacement therapy.

Estrogen replacement therapy is sometimes refused or contraindicated. In these instances, this review demonstrates that black cohosh can safely be used as an alternative and alleviate menopausal symptoms.
