Isoflavones
and Postmenopausal Women with Coronary Heart Disease
Article Summary:
This series of clinical studies was aimed to determine if isoflavones
would reduce the risk of coronary heart disease in postmenopausal
women. This was done as a replacement to women having to undertake
oestrogen replacement therapy, which increases incidence of breast
and endometrial cancer. Cell culture, animal experiments, and clinical
studies show that isoflavones do act in the same way as oestrogen.
Many times positive side effects were found on the bone metabolism.
There was also an observed decrease of certain types of cancers
with the treatment of isoflavones. With all these findings it was
concluded that isoflavones are very beneficial for postmenopausal
women without any known side effects.
