Vitamin
D and Vitamin K for Primary Osteoporosis
Article Summary:
A review of the literature reporting on the effectiveness of using
Vitamin D3 and K2 for treating osteoporosis. The findings show that
combining the administration of Vitamin D3 and K2 stimulate the
formation of bone, thus increasing the mineral density of lumbar
bones. The highest level of efficiency was obtained in subjects
that were both younger and had most recently experienced menopause.
These results contrasted those found from the administration of
antiresorptive agents, the bisphosphonates that showed the greatest
effects in older subjects with a greater number of years since menopause
and with evidence of osteoporosis. The encouraging results that
Vitamin D3 and K2 increase bone formation displays the benefits
of using these substances to treat primary osteoporosis.
